Okay, I’m a little miffed…
I had a date tonight, which was fine until the guy reached for the check, said I got this one, but turned out he didn’t and I had to pay. Kicker, he leaned in for a kiss after he walked me to my car. Very classy.

Aug 23rd – I found this frog on my deck. I love frogs, I got really excited when I saw him. No, really excited. I started to entertain the thought of having a frog for a pet, but the I worried that I, or one of my cats would kill him. So I let him go. I think he’s happier this way. At least I hope he is.
Aug 22nd – I took this at Jaye Cooke State Park, by Carlton, MN. I like taking shots where I can play around with the shutter speed. I like that the water looks foamy. If you have a chance to go to Jay Cooke, take it. It is beautiful!
Okay, so once again I forgot to post yesterday, so here’s two pictures to placate you:
Aug 21st – this is from my second day at Lake Vermillion, we stopped at an island (I think it was an island) for lunch after fishing all morning. The area we stopped was full of these Red Birch trees. I love birch trees and these were just beautiful.
Aug 21st – it’s really hard to hear people when the boat is going fast. My friend JK kept pointing behind me and shouting “Look at the Rainbow”. It took her a little while for me to get it. It’s pretty, don’t you think?
Aug 20 – These are the chains that connect the boat trailer to my friend’s truck. We had just dropped the boat in the water and I drove the truck and the trailer to the airport parking, slowly. Hey, he’s got a nice truck! Then I wait for him to trek on over so he can back the truck and trailer in by the cabin.
A friend of mine has a cabin up at Lake Vermillion, right outside of Tower. This is were I spent my weekend. We did this last year, you can see the post here. Only this time there were only three of us.
The cabin is on the Southern end the lake, just outside of Tower, MN. We made a couple stops along the way. In Cloquet, we stopped at Sammy’s Pizza. They have a pizza buffet that is really good. They make three different pizzas at a time, but the go fast. My favorite was the Sausage. The also have a salad buffet. I think the only bad thing was I didn’t get a picture. I kind of slept on the way up. I get motion sickness pretty bad if I’m not driving, and I found that if I was sleeping I didn’t feel so sick.
Our next stop was in Virginia, MN. There is a meat store there that my friend JR always stops at on his way up to the cabin. It’s smells like meat in there.
The meat is pretty cheap here, we usually get sausage of some kind for breakfast and sliced meat for sandwiches. This time we got some Porketta sausages, Garlic sausages, Apple Cinnamon sausages and a Porketta steak. All where really good. We also got some bread and chips for lunches.
Once we go to the cabin, which my friend refers as a Palatial Palace but it’s only a trailer home, we have some stuff that needs to get done. We need to open the windows, no one is there during the week and it gets a little stuffy. We also have to get the boat all gassed up.
We stopped at a gas station in Tower for that, I had a little laugh over this sign. I also got my Fishing License here. $18 later, I was legally able to fish. After getting the boat gassed, we need to get it in the water, and I get to help with that. Well, I only get to drive JR’s truck back to the cabin, but that’s still helping.
And after getting the boat in the water, we got to take it out for a drive. That’s the fun part, flying along the water, the spray from the wake flying up at you as you go along.
As long as your in the boat, mind you safely and not over doing anything, it may be time for a brewski.
It is also most certainly time for fishing…and that is what we did. Too bad the only thing caught the first day was a crawfish, but we had better luck Saturday.

Aug 21st – I didn’t post of Friday and for good reason. I was on my way up to Lake Vermillion in Northern Minnesota. My friend’s parents have a cabin up there. I am getting a post together, which inludes sunburns, seagulls and a great white buffalo. For now, I will leave you with a picture of Seagull Island, or as my friend calls it Shithawk Island. I believe the name is actually Beech Island. I had taken pictures with my telephoto, but it was too windy to get a really good shot.

Aug 17th – I love these butterflies, they are so pretty. Too bad this guy had a torn wing. I even love the Woolly Bears. I used to catch them when I was a kid to see if they could transform into butterflies. Sadly, I don’t think any of mine made it.

Aug 16th – I made this last night. It was really good. I bought a cast iron skillet last night and grilled some chicken on it. I cut up some Basil and Roma tomatoes, added some mozzerella, balsalmic vinegar and olive oil. Oh, and I burned my finger, I got a pretty good sized blister going on. I’m actually quite proud, a battle wound from my first foray into cooking with a cast iron skillet. I’m think of knitting a sock for the handle.
