I love free food, it tastes so much better then food you have to pay for, unless that food is potato-ish in nature.  Cause nothing tastes better than a potato, nothing.

At the wedding last weekend, another cousin brought up that she had never heard of Metallica until I brought it up to her and that she liked them.

We’re talking old school Metallica here, like Battery.  Not St. Anger, which I cannot listen too cause it reminds me of a construction site.  Loud, obnoxious construction sites with drummers who are way to full of themselves.

I was in Iowa over the Labor Day weekend.  I’m usually there at this time, my baby sister’s birthday is always around Labor day and it was on the Friday before this year. So Friday morning I drove down, 4 hours driving by cornfield after cornfield after cornfield.  It it a bit of a boring drive, but I won’t complain too much, cause at least I’m not driving in Nebraska.

I arrived at my dad’s house just as he was walking home from dropping his car off for an oil change.  My dad lives in a very small town, just over 3,000 people.  Most of those are farmers so the town itself is very small.  They have just one stoplight.  So one can walk home from the car dealership, which is only like 5 blocks away.

For her birthday dinner, my sister wanted to go to Pizza Hut.  I know, she’s a little odd, but she’s also a little like me.  So she’s really not that odd.  My dad, my stepmom and I shared a pizza while the little sis had her own cheese personal pizza.  She’s not a very adventureous eater so I was surprised I was able to get her to try Ranch dressing with her pizza.  She thought it was okay.

Saturday, one of my cousins was getting married.  The service was nice, if not a bit long.  I’m Lutheran and not used to Catholic weddings, no bashing here though.  The bride was beautiful and I’m sure her jaw was aching from the huge smiled she had.  Now, both my cousin (he just graduated from college recently) and his bride are young, but I hope they last.

During the reception, my dad, my stepmom, little sis and I shared a table with my stepmom’s brother and sister in-law.  I was talking to my dad about my nephew and my aunt (at least she wanted me to call her Aunt when I was younger) interjected, “Who’s Jacob?”

“He’s my nephew,” I told her, “he just turned four.”

“Oh, I didn’t know your sister is married.”

“She’s not married.”

“Oh,” she said while rolling her eyes and sighing, “I just hate it when people are not married with kids.”  She says this in front of my dad, who is divorced from my mom.  Really, was that appropiate? I think it was a little rude of her to be so crude.  This was the only bad part of the weekend, well, I did see a bush with bright crimson leaves on the way home.  That one made me cry a little.

A friend of mine has a cabin on Lake Vermillion in Tower, MN and a group of us went up there this past weekend.  It was fun, I even caught a fish!  Here are some highlights:

Okay, so as I was going to bed last night, I realized that I forgot a bunch of books.  Feeling that these books are too good to ignore, I decided to create another list:

11. Harold and the Purple Crayon, by Crockett Johnson. My favorite color is purple.  We found this book again when my mom was moving, it was quite tattered from use.

12. One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish, by Dr. Suess.  My most favorite of the Suess books.  Both my sister and I learned to read from that book.

13. The Babysitter’s Club, by Ann M. Martin. I lived for these books.  I used to have a lot of the books, I believe they are still making them.

14. The Nancy Drew Files, by Carolyn Keene. This was the Nancy Drew series I really got into.

15. A Light in the Attic by Shel Silverstein. I tried to use the story of the girl not getting her pony and so she died, only I tried to get a tiger out of it.

16. The Choose Your Own Adventure books.  These were awesome.  I remember reading one back to front and not really sure why I did that.

Okay, so I ended up with 16 books/series.  Most of these books I would read over and over. And over again.

I have always loved to read.  Growning up, it was my favorite thing to do, ever.  I would read for hours, and sometimes I had those hours.  My dad lived about three hours away and I could read on the way to his house.  Too bad I’d get sick from it though, it meant I was introduced to Dramimen at a very young age.

I still love to read, I usually read a chapter from whatever book I am reading before bed.  Or more, depending on the book.  I also read blogs, one of my favorites, Crazy Aunt Purl, I read everyday.  I love the way she writes and I love her stories.

On her blog today she mentioned this aritcle from the New York Times.  She also added her own Top 10 list (although it became a Top 12list) of her own favorite books, I’d thought I do the same. In no particular order:

1. The BFG by Roald Dahl.  I’d thought I’d start with this one.  I’ve read just about all of Roald Dahl’s books, but this is my favorite.  A giant who blows dreams in to windows, confuses “wrong” with “left” and saves the world.  Awesome.

2. Socks by Beverly Cleary. I loved this book, I’d read it over and over again. It had a cat, and I grew up with cats.  Enough said.

3. The Ramona series, by Beverly Cleary.  I loved this series as a child and now I think it’s going to be a movie.  I hope its as good as it was in my head.  I think why I loved these books so much was that it reminded me of my sister and me.  I was Beezus of course, and my sister was Ramona.

4. The Tillerman Saga, by Cynthia Voight.  I found these books in high school. I still read them from time to time.  It doesn’t hurt that Anne Bancroft was in the tv movie of the first in the series.

5. The Hero and The Crown, by Robin McKinley.  I had forgotten about this book, but held parts of it at the back of my memory.  I had read this book in my junior high library for the first time.  Now I read it about every 6 months or so.

6. The Chronicles of Narnia, by C.S. Lewis.  I saw the BBC movie before I read the books, but I do love them both.

7. DragonLance, started by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman.  This world was introduced to me in Junior high from a friend of mine.  I fell immediately in love.  The characters are great and the stories are fun.  I get excited when new books come out and I love to read the Chronicles over and over again.

8. The Belgariad by David Eddings.  Introduced to me by the same friend who sold me on DragonLance.  I a really big fan of the underdogs.  A ragtag group sets out to save the world.  The stories continue on in The Mallorean. Too bad David Eddings passed away earlier this year, who knows what other worlds live in his mind.

9. The Giver by Lois Lowry.  One of my most favorite books ever.  I read this book in my junior high English class.  Which was taught by one of my most favorite teachers, Mr. Guanzon.  He deserves his own post and I just may write a post about him.

10. Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, by Alvin Scwartz.  I can’t believe that I still have this book.  When I was younger, the scarier stories scared the crap out of me, but I loved the funnier ones.  At one point I could recite all of the stories from the first book.

I was able to keep my list to 10, although I’m sure that if given enough time, I could find more.

I was on Entertainment weekly this morning and saw this article.  I’d have to agree as I’ve seen most of the movies on this list and they pretty much rock.
